Linda Anne Morgan

Linda Anne Morgan

Linda Anne Morgan (née Hortness) of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 70. She will be remembered as a caring wife, mother, sister, friend, and cat lady.

Born on March 24, 1954, Linda grew up in Nederland, Texas, as the eldest daughter of Buck and Louise Hortness and the big sister to three siblings. Linda graduated from Lamar University with a degree in accounting and tallied up a 34-year career with the Texas State Comptroller’s Office.

Linda’s life changed when Ricky Morgan dropped to one knee in a mall parking lot to pop the question. The pair married in 1981 and went on to have two daughters and numerous pets — all her “babies.”

Linda never met a cat she didn’t adore or a wine glass she wouldn’t overfill with a sweet red. Her secret superpower was winning at casino penny slots, and if you needed to find her, you just had to look for the nearest Harry Potter movie marathon. Linda enjoyed cruises and traveling, making special tips to Hawaii, England, and New York City. At home, she spent many hours reading, cooking, watching TV, doing puzzles, and playing computer games. But she loved her family above all.

Linda is survived by her husband Ricky Morgan, her daughters Kim and Ashley Morgan, and her lone son BB (yes, he’s a cat) as well as her sisters Shirley Adams and Rhonda Reyes and her brother Bill Hortness.

In lieu of a public service, please consider raising a glass of whatever you like in Linda’s honor or making a donation to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of my long time school friend! I have lots of fond memories of Linda, dating back to 3rd grade when we attended Hillcrest Elementary School in Nederland. We lived 1 block, one street from each other and often walked to school together. Sharing fun times all the way through high school with Linda are great memories. She was a beautiful person, taken from family and friends so early..prayers of comfort for her family.

Linda and her family moved to our neighborhood when we were both young. We attended grade school together and knew her entire family. She was simply a terrific person. So sorry for her being gone too soon. In summary just an all around good person.
