Marilyn Miers Barker

Marilyn Miers Barker, 78, died Monday, November 1, 2010, in Cypress, Texas.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, at First Baptist Church Bridge City with Dr. Charles Walton, former pastor of First Baptist Church Bridge City officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City, under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday, at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Barker was born in Pineville, Louisiana on March 6, 1932. Marilyn was the daughter of Reverend Charles S. Miers, former pastor of First Baptist Church Bridge City and Ethel Simmons Miers.

Marilyn was a secretary for Bridge City Independent School District for 27 years. She had resided in Bridge City for over 50 years prior to moving to Cypress to be near her daughter and son-in-law in 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Buddy Miers and Dewey Miers.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dan Barker; and daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Gregg Carroll of Cypress.

Also surviving is her loving and faithful caregivers, Harriett and Charles Payne, Marilyn Ford, and Ruth Reese; sisters-in-law, Maureen Miers, and Gloria Miers; 5 nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Woodall, Jerry Laughlin, Lon Hubbard, Terry Burd, Jeff Miers, and Craig Turner.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Bridge City, 200 West Round Bunch Road, Bridge City, Texas 77611.
