Marjorie Lynn Coulter Wohler (March 6,1948 – February 25, 2025) BEAUMONT, TX –
Marjorie Lynn Coulter Wohler was born in the Sand Hill Community of Gilmer, TX on March 6, 1948. Lynn, as she was affectionately called, was the youngest daughter of Cleo Sr. and Ima Dean Coulter. She was the apple of her Daddy and Mother’s eye and was loved unconditionally by her nine siblings. The family moved to Orange, Texas where Lynn attended grammar and high school.
From a very young age, Lynn knew she wanted to serve people as a nurse. In faithfulness to that calling, Lynn earned her Licensed Vocational Nursing Certificate from the program offered at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Lynn subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from McNeese State University and went on to earn her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. She had completed substantial course work toward earning her Doctorate in Nursing from Baylor University.
Lynn served the southeast Texas community as a nurse for over forty years. At the time of her retirement, Lynn was serving as the Director of the Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical-Surgical Units in Beaumont, Texas. In addition to serving as a nurse and clinical director, Lynn was an outstanding nursing professor at Lamar University. She was recognized for her teaching skills, expertise, and commitment to her students.
Lynn was a devoted wife to Robert “Bob” Wohler, Jr. for twenty-nine years until his death. Lynn spent the years since keeping Bob’s memory alive for their son Robert “Robbie” Wohler, III.
Lynn and Robbie shared a love of thoroughbred horse racing, owning stock in eleven thoroughbreds including one who has a very good chance of competing in this year’s Kentucky Derby. Lynn never saw a Kentucky Derby in person, but she always watched it live and would sip mint julips and dress in the elaborate dress and hats donned by spectators of the world-famous race.
Lynn was a cat lover and had a particular fondness for the Siamese, which was the breed of her first childhood cat Bonnie. Her love of cats continued until her death as she leaves behind six beloved fur babies.
Lynn enjoyed spending lazy summers on the beach. She spent countless summers renting beach cabins with her nieces and nephews. Lynn loved sitting by the shore, or in the surf, listening to the waves and soaking up the south Texas sun. She also loved sharing margaritas on the beach or at Stingaree, her favorite Crystal Beach restaurant.
Lynn loved watching the roses bloom and enjoyed helping Robbie work in the yard, tending to their many flower beds, plants and trees.
She was a collector of many beautiful things, including fine China, Waterford crystal, and antiques, many of which she accumulated at estate sales she regularly attended with her sister Pat.
Lynn had a love of music as well and she enjoyed playing the piano. Some of her favorite genres included country, southern gospel, blues, and of course rock and roll. Her favorite artist was Elvis Presley.
Lynn loved the Dallas Cowboys, who she called, “God’s Team”, and, like most fans, knew that next year was going to be their year!
Lynn always worked to make holidays special for her family. She spent hours planning holiday menus and activities. The party wasn’t complete until holiday themed songs were sung, games were played, and the family all had a sip of milk punch, Virginia’s special recipe which Lynn kept and shared with her nieces and nephews.
Lynn gave her life to the Lord, and she was a faithful member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, in Beaumont, Texas.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo Sr. and Ima Dean Coulter; brothers Jimmy Morris Coulter, Winford Childress Coulter, Randall Leo Coulter, and Cleo Coulter, Jr.; sisters, Miriam Virginia Coulter Baker, Emma Dale Coulter Boulet Nelms, and Bobbie Joy Coulter Myers Dorman; brothers-in-law Preacher Boulet, Freddie Myers, Doug Nelms, Bubba Stephenson, Glenn Sanderson, and Larry Baker, Sr.; and sisters-in-law Ethel Coulter and Mary Jo Coulter.
Lynn loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Family members left to keep her memories alive including her beloved son, Robert Wohler, III. of Beaumont, TX; sisters, Eddie Jean Coulter Stephenson of Deweyville, TX and Patsy Dean Coulter Peery Sanderson of Orange, TX. Brother-in-law Kenneth Dorman of Mauriceville, TX.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws in Texas, Louisiana, New York, Indiana, and Massachusetts.
A family visitation will be held March 7, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm for family, and from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont Texas.
A Rosary Service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery next to her beloved husband Robert, Beaumont, Tx.
Pallbearers will be Larry Baker Jr, Jimmy Coulter, Glenn Stephenson, Dean Peery, Sammy DeVille, Kenneth Dorman, Robert Flores, and Ed Stewart.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Christus, St. Elizabeth Southeast Texas, most especially Dr. Alfred Brady (he provided care for her, her entire adult life), Dr. Allen McGrew, and the nurses, as well as the ICU staff for their outstanding care and professionalism during Lynn's last days, and we would like to thank all of her friends and family for the outpouring of love, care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas (HSSET) or MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas in Lynn’s loving memory.
