I was fortunate to have met Mrs. Beaty in 1956 when I started the first grade at Voth Rosedale Elementary with her eldest son Joey Lee Beaty. My good fortune continued when I learned our new home was six doors down from the Beaty's. For the next twelve years, I think I spent as much time at the Beaty's as I spent at my own home. My parents, my sister, and I became very close with the Beaty's and the Beaty boys. We became the kind of friends that no matter where life took us, when our paths crossed again, it was always like we had seen each other yesterday. Mrs. Beaty was one of the kindest most gentle souls I have ever met as well as being one of the funniest. I have hundreds of stories but, the one I teased her about for the next forty years was as follows: As Joey Lee and I became teenagers, we became more interested in the opposite sex. Joey Lee had become quite interested in one young lady in particular. I could always tell when Mrs. Beaty was about to be serious because Joe became Joey Lee Beaty. She cornered me in her kitchen and asked me if this young lady that Joey Lee was interested in was a "trolip". I had no idea what a "trolip" was but, said I don't think so. I was always really close to my Dad so, I went home and asked him what a "trolip" was. He explained, I understood, and I told Mrs. Beaty the next day that she was definetly NOT a "trolip". I teased Mrs. Beaty for the next twenty years by thanking her for teaching me about "trolips" ever chance I got. As usual, she got the best of me when I was in my early thirties and married for the third time, every time I would see her she would ask was I sure I had learned what a "trolip" was. She started out as my best friend's Mother, became my second Mother, and has always been my Friend. As long as I live she will be remembered fondly and thought of often. Larry Hancock
