I am so so sad....Melvin was one of my favorite people on earth....he called me every once in a while and I have saved his voice on my message machine....I only bought my Electrolux machines from him or he would advise me what to buy after he retired.....I didn't know he was sick....I hope he didn't suffer at all. He always knew everybody by name....a really good man and loved by all of us....I'll never forget him......Marsha Elmore

Our family has known Melvin Elkins for many many years. Many of my friends and church family members knew him well too. He never forgot a customer and always knew a little something about each one. If there was a clipping in the paper about a death or a wedding he would always cut it out and laminate it and mail it to us. I once mentioned Rainbow vacuum cleaners to him and asked him what he thought. He said "Anyone knows you don't mix electricity and water!" So funny! He left his mark and goodwill all over the Beaumont area. Rest in peace, Melvin.

Mr Elkins was a kind gentleman. Last time I got to speak with him, he was at the church I attended checking up on the vacuums. And of course told me a joke, always a cheerful, kind man.

I knew Melvin as "Brother Elkins" at First Baptist Lumberton from my early youth. He was more of a positive influence in my life than he realized. I wish I would have told him sooner. He always had a corny joke that made you at least chuckle. And if you ever said to him, "When I get around to it" he would pull a round wooden coin out of his pocket that had "tuit" on it, hand it to you and then ask, "Now what's your excuse?" Loved his Fedora too. Few men have walked this earth as kind and genuine as him. I'm so fortunate I knew him.

Saddened to learn of your loss....My wife always had Electrolux thru our years and Melvin would know what she needed before she did....she considered him a true friend and he was always so accommodating and kind...she will meet him in heaven as she graduated to heaven in 2016....he was an excellent representative of his company and his customers knew he had their best interest at heart.....he know sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty... Mr. Elkins will be truly missed. I bought my first vacuum from him years ago and maintained a friendship since that day. My parents were also customers of his and he always called each one of us to check on us and see if we have any vacuum needs. You could also spot Mr. Elkins in his car as he drove around and called on his many customers. Yes he always had a joke, offered a piece of candy and left you with a token. He was a great man inside and out and I know that his family and friends will miss him. I know that he gained his wings as soon as he got to the gates of heaven. He was a very special man to so many and he will be truly missed and never forgotten. I pray that the many memories of your dad will bring you comfort and a smile.
