Melvin Mel E. King, 79, departed this life to go to his heavenly home on January 5, 2010, at Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont. He was born on June 18, 1930, in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in petroleum engineering. While in college he met his loving wife of 56 years, Jan King. Together they had three children Ron, Stephanie and Larry. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co for 29 years and retired from J. M. Huber Corp in 1988. He was a member of Cathedral in the Pines Church of Beaumont.

Mel dedicated 52 years to Little League Baseball. He began his career in 1957, serving as a Manager, Coach and Umpire in Borger, TX. In 1987 he was selected to umpire during the Little League World Series. He became the District Administrator for Texas District 32 in 1990 and retired in 2008.

Mel was a devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Mary Alice King. He is survived by his wife, Jan King of Bridge City; brother H.D. King of Orange; son and wife Ronald and Sebastiana King of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada; daughter and husband Stephanie and Bill Pfister of Bridge City; and son and wife Larry and Patti King of Beaumont. He is also survived by grandchildren Bradley King and wife Anya; Lucie, Cassandra and Sam Morana; Anthony A.J. Mazzola, Jr, Nicholas Pfister; Alan and Bridgette King.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made to Little League Baseball Inc., 3700 South University Parks Drive, Waco, TX 76706.
