Norman was a well-respected teacher and coach for a rewarding 37 years. He served schools in Nocona, Dayton, and West Orange, and was affectionately called “Coach Miksch” by many long after he retired.

His hobbies included gardening and hunting. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their activities, and was devotedly present at many of their special events.

Coach Miksch was a real PE coach, he had zero tolerance for cursing on the gym floor..lets just say I learned the hard way. He was trying to make us kids grow up and grasp maturity. He dedicated his profession to us knuckleheads and for that I wish him Godspeed, he is a real memory of mine and a good man and I ask my Creator for blessings for him family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a student of Coach Miksch at West Orange-Stark in the 80's. He was such a wonderful and caring person. I shared a piece of gum with him about the first week of school and from then on I was his "class pet". He will be missed. May he rest in peace. God Bless.
Suzanne Alboneti (Bassinger) January 30, 2015
To Norma, Gary and Dwayne and their families- The Bassinger family sends our deepest sympathizes to your entire family. Coach was a special man who influenced so many- but my favorite memorizes were the "after game" parties that were held during football season- my sisters and i have so many memories of his smile and joke cracking, when our fathers started at Stark High School under Coach Jefferies, and how nice it was to know other people "living on a circle in Roselawn"- he and my dad can sit up in heaven and share all those coaching stories again- God's peace to you all- Suzanne, Julie, Patricia and Nancy Bassinger

Sending my condolences to his family. Like many others, Coach Miksch was also my driver's ed teacher. I can remember I had a good grade in the simulator but the behind-the-wheel was another story. We were out driving one day and he said: "You are supposed to be getting better, not worse." Well he can rest easy now because I am a very cautious and law abiding driver. I pray that God will wrap you, his family, in HIS loving and comforting arms today and in the days ahead.Former student, Dawn Hodgkinson Tramel West Orange Stark High School 1982-85

So sorry for your loss. My best memories of Coach Miksch were in driver's ed...and me waiting at a 4-way stop with his comment of..take your time...it's not like I have a family or anything....I ran into him at a store as an adult..and couldn't believe he still remembered me..calling me by my last name !! Such a sweet man who took the time to care and know his students. He will be missed!

It does not surprise me in the least to see all of the wonderful comments about Coach Miksch. He touched so many peoples' lives in a very positive way! He too was my drivers' ed teacher, what fun we had. Seems he called most of his 'learners' AJ Foyt! I loved that he would get me and my driving partner, Rhonda Cannon, out during the day to 'practice driving' in order to go see Gary's games! I will never forget when we were going to Bridge City, I was turning right off of Hwy 62 to 87, apparently a little 'tighter' than Coach expected, he turned back to Rhonda and asked her "if she the got the number off of the telephone pole?" Cracked us up. So many good memories come to mind. Our families had so much fun also. Heaven is building a great cheering section from the Orange County schools. Dearest thoughts and prayers to all of the Miksch family in your tremendous loss. Know that he is in great company up there and will send you signs that he is always near you. Coach Miksch was my favorite high school coach and PE teacher. He coached our golf team and we had so much fun with him on the golf trips. He also coached our basketball team and he was a great coach. Many great memories of him -- he always put a smile on my face. May God bless the family during this time of sorrow but let us all remember all the good times he gave us. Kelly Gerland Stark Hi (1967)

Coach Miksch was the secondary coach for Stark High School Tigers in the 1970's. He was also in charge of the equipment room and managers. I was a manager my junior year and head manager my senior year. I graduated in 1973. Coach Miksch made sure we knew our repsonsibliies to the team and kept us on our toes with a joke or a story that made us laugh. He would remind us that our job as managers included counting socks and chin straps. And with a smile, he would tell us that if the practise dummies were not in the right place at the right time, managers would be the practise dummies. His secondary coverage calls filtered down to nicknames for him; Coach Polecat, Coach Thunder, but never called him that to his face. He would have just laughed about it if we did.

Hated to hear this Coach Miksch was my favorite coach at Stark High he was always fun to play sports with and always laughed and cut up with us. I will admit that there was a couple of us he let get by with a lot and made life enjoyable to be around him. I feel he will be cutting up as soon as he hits those pearly gates. RIP Coach! one of your many admirers and friend Mike Swope.

I had Coach Miksch my Freshman and Sophomore years at WO-S and he was also my driving instructor. He had much better luck teaching me to drive than he did teaching me to do anything at all athletic. (That's completely on me.) He was incredibly patient and laughed easily. I've run into him a few times over the years and each time, left feeling like I'd been his favorite student. I'm so sorry for your loss and grateful for the memories.

Margie & family, I want you to know I will miss Norman greatly at the Waelder Homecoming. He was my friend for as long as I can remember. He said all the basketball team would eat Chili at my grandfather's cafe when they were practicing or playing ball at night. The Homecoming crew will send out the obit to all our contacts. Take care and know that he had many friends still around Waelder who loved him. Love Dixie Harris Basquez

May all of Norm's family and friends be comforted and by the peace that God alone can provide. The memories of good times we have had with him will soothe our minds and hearts in the coming days. Norm had a special gift of expressing his love and concern for everyone who crossed his path in this life. His interest in others and their well being was always very apparent. We love you Norm. Caring on without you will not be the same but we know you would be the first to encourage and admonish us to move forward and look for ways to share our lives with those we know and love....You were one of the best at showing us how to do that. We thank God that we were fortunate enough to have shared a part of our journey on earth with you and we look forward to being with you again when it is our time to cross over to where you are. Much Love, Linda and Robert
