Novie Whitmire Cones, 86, of Lumberton, Texas passed away on her birthday, June 2, 2007.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Silsbee with Dr. Scott Moody officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.

She was born June 2, 1921, in Hemphill, Texas to Walter Lee and Bulah Youngblood Gooch. She was a 1939 graduate of South Park High School and a former church secretary at North End Baptist Church in Beaumont. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Silsbee, she was a Sunday School teacher. She loved gardening, flowers and family gatherings. Mrs. Cones was retired from Baptist Hospital as an admitting clerk.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tucker Whitmire.

Her husband of sixteen years, John D. Cones survives her, along with daughters, Gladys Baggett and husband, Larry of Spring, Texas and Carolyn McLemore of The Woodlands; stepchildren, Ronnie Foreman and husband, Fred of Houston, Kenneth Cones and wife, Anita of Tyler and Johnny Cones and Donna of Los Angeles and a sister, Gladys Johnson of Florida. Her grandchildren, Tracie Brooks, Jeremy Byrom, Julie Byrom, Jill Sheffield, Dustin McLemore and Josh Byrom and three great-grandchildren also survive her.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Silsbee, 350 Hwy 96 S, Silsbee, Texas 77656.
