O.J. Chelette

O.J. Chelette, 76, of Bridge City, died Monday, December 13, 2010, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Bob Boone of First Baptist Church in Bridge City and Dr. James Foster, Sr. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Born in Colfax, Louisiana on February 12, 1934, O.J. was the son of James Randolph and Blanche Sible McDaniel Chelette. He worked as a carpenter and commercial fisherman, and he was a member of First Baptist Church in Bridge City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Chelette; brother, A.J. Chelette; and sisters, Mildred Walsworth and Dorothy Hall.

O.J. is survived by his son, Jimmy Chelette of Bridge City; daughter, Charlotte Diane Chelette Cole of Village Mills; and son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Vonda Chelette of Bridge City; eight grandchildren, Misty, Jerramie, Heather, Chea, Amber, Brandy, Jon and Shawn; and ten great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sisters, Viola Harlow and her husband, John, and Margaret Adams; and brothers, J.C. Chelette, and Robert Chelette and his wife, Linda.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Harrell Dee Butts, Robert Harvey, Jerramie Lynn McGough, Alan Hall, James Randolph Walsworth, and Donald Ray Carruthers.

So sorry for your loss. We only met a couple of times. I knew AJ through my brother Jim Tomlin Monterastelli and friend Tracy Hamm. I loved Tracy but time wasn’t on our side. AJ could be really funny with a cool since of humor.
