Rachel E. Smith 81, of Bridge City died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2008 in Orange.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Second Baptist Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Mel Ervin.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Rachel was born in Union, Mississippi on December 24, 1926 to John Lee and Lula Thompson Fitzgerald. Rachel worked in food service for Bridge City I.S.D. for 31 years. She was also a member of Second Baptist Church in Bridge City and loved to play dominos, work in her yard and spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lula Thompson; husband, Heubert Smith; and daughter, Dianna Smith Guidry.

Rachel is survived by her sons, John Smith and wife Denise of Orange, Grady Smith of Port Arthur and Kenneth Smith and wife Connie of Bridge City. Also surviving Rachel are seven grandchildren, Lauren Smith Dosch and husband Kent, Rachel Guidry, Allison Smith Barton and husband Brandon of Dallas, Spencer Smith of Dallas, Claire Guidry LeJune and husband Cody of Jennings, LA., Charlie Smith Guidry of Evadale and Jordan Guidry.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Kiihnl, Tom Brooks, Jerry Chesson, L.K. Jarrell, Bob Moore and Joe Elam.

I remember Ms. Smith from my days at Bridge City High School. She always had a smile on her face and I appreciated her kindness.
