Reggie Davis Franklin

Reginald Davis ?Reggie? Franklin, 67, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Kevin Trinkle, Chaplain with Baptist Hospital in Orange.

Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Davis, as he was known to his family, was born in Beeville on June 11, 1944. He was the son of Reginald T. Franklin and Mae Riser Franklin. A former resident of Orange, he was a long time resident of Beaumont where he was a counselor with people who had chemical dependencies.

Davis at one time worked for Beaumont Neurological Hospital and was currently working with the Triangle AIDS Network. While at the Triangle AIDS Network, he counseled both patients and their families, helped patients acquire medications, transportation to their doctor and housing. He was currently volunteering with Smiles On Wheels, an organization that provides free dental care to impoverished families.

In 1993, the Frist Foundation presented Davis with the Frist Humanitarian Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the community.

Preceded in death by his father, Reginald T. Franklin and brother, Dr. Cecil Dennis Franklin, Davis is survived by his mother, Mae Franklin of West Orange; sister, Jo Ann Franklin of Moss Bluff, Louisiana and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Reggie, as I always knew him was a very dear and wonderful friend and I am going to miss seeing him in Walwart. I have never had the pleasure of meeting you but I knew Mr Franklin very well. My wife and I were saddened to learn of Davis' passing. He and I attended Chenier Business School together in Beaumont. He and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.##imported-begin##Thomas Wilson##imported-end##
