Reverend W.C. Hall, Jr.

1940 ∼ 2020

Beloved gentle man

Love touching hearts touching souls

Our lives have been blessed

W. C. Hall, Jr., 80, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on November 3, 2020 in his childhood home in Beaumont.

W.C. was born June 2, 1940, in Beaumont, TX, the only child of Willard and Louise Hall. His mother had a beauty shop and his Grandmother Hall and father’s sister, Robbie, lived with them after his Grandfather’s death in 1942. His extended family was a blessing to him in his “growing up” years contributing greatly to his childhood.

At age seven, W.C. began taking piano lessons from Miss Anne Whitaker, making music an important part of his education for the next eleven years. He eventually also learned to play the organ and played for the early worship service at his home church, North End Methodist, through college.

After graduating from Beaumont High School in 1958, W.C. began to work on a degree from Lamar Tech in Beaumont. In 1962, he graduated from Lamar with a BA in English. Having felt the call to enter the ministry of the Methodist Church, W.C. moved to Dallas to work on his Masters in Theology at SMU. He graduated from the Perkins School of Theology in 1965.

After completing his formal education, W.C. entered the ministry in the Texas Conference of the Methodist Church. His first appointment as a pastor was to the Methodist Church in Matagorda, TX. He also served in Bay Vue/Port Bolivar, Lissie, Cokesbury in Houston, Wesley in Nederland, campus ministry at A&M, Canterbury in Houston, Canton, Asbury in Pasadena, Dayton, and Holy Trinity in Houston. While serving in Canton, W.C. was honored by “Progressive Farmer” magazine as the rural pastor of the year for the state of Texas in 1984. Throughout his ministry, W.C. was privileged to help seventeen foster children.

While serving in ministry, W.C. was honored to be the founding pastor of the Methodist Church in Crystal Beach on Bolivar peninsula. the church building and parsonage were built and paid for in cash. He also had the major building project of building the Wesley Foundation at Texas A&M, also paid for in cash with no debt upon completion. During his ministry at A&M, the Wesley Foundation became the largest in the United States, involving over 500 students each year.

W.C. retired in 2003 following forty years of service with the Texas Conference. He then moved back to the house he grew up in in Beaumont, the house his parents bought in 1945. Retirement provided opportunities for interim ministry as well as pursuing his hobbies of fishing and hunting. The highlight was a safari to South Africa in 2005. W.C. was also an avid fan of classical and gospel music, theater, and reading. He leaves behind three of his own books; “I Yam What I Yam,” “Preach the Word”, and “Memories, Reflections and Lessons Learned”.

W.C.s family is very grateful for his caretakers, Zenobia Allen, Jackie Thomas, Ava Wilson, Janice Reed and Ruth Aubey. He leaves behind his foster son Luis Hall-Valdez and cousin Orvalee Hall Husband, as well as many close friends. He will be loved, missed, and remembered by the many people and lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, W.C. has asked that donations be made to the Stephen’s Children’s Foundation, a charity for children living in the slums and garbage dumps in Egypt. The Stephen’s Foundation carries on the work of Mother Maggi, the woman who single handedly served these children before the Stephen’s Foundation.

I just thought about him and did a Google search. He was my pastor growing up through my high school years in Bellville, Texas. Fish on W.C.

I will always remember WC singing “Them Bones Gonna Rise Again” at North End Methodist Church youth weeks. If he was around, we had a great time and an inspirational week.

He served Buna FUMC for a short while and we were all blessed to have known him. The most generous, humble and compassionate human I have ever met. Thankful God put in in my path of life.

WC was such a major part of our lives for the last 36 years. He was more than just a great mentor and friend. He was like family. I still have his voice saved on my cellphone wishing me a happy birthday and we have many treasure he gave us. Enjoy your richly deserved reward, WC. We will miss you greatly, but we are so blessed to have known you. Anita and David Green

WC was my "brother from another mother." After retirement WC and I moved back to Beaumont and renewed our friendship begun at Old North End Methodist on Cleveland. We shared the hobby of half price Saturday at area Estate Sales. We also shared the enjoyment of eating out and drove to Chrystal Beach for Shrimp and Avocado salad. (more than once) We also cooked and shared meals at home. My husband Jim and I drove WC to preaching Sundays at area churches. The photo is WC, Jerome, Doug, and I enjoying lunch after WC preached at Trinity. During WC's battle with cancer, we were a back up team to deliver lunch to clinics and hospitals without lunch or with bad lunches. WC really liked Dairy Queen chicken and dumplings. (And I don't know why.) WC was thrilled to celebrate his 80th birthday and Jim and I led the parade. WC lived a good life and he fought the good fight. He will be missed - never forgotten - and forever live in our hearts.

I remember Pastor Hall when he was at Wesley Methodist in Nederland. He was a very charismatic soul. He was kind-hearted and always with a smile. My prayers to his family.
