Rudon Hayes Martin

Rudon Hayes Martin, 85, was born October 11, 1925 in Hillsboro, TX to Joe Frank Martin and Myrtle Hayes Martin. Mr. Martin was a US Army WWII veteran and also served in the Navy Reserves.

Rudon worked as a plumber and pipefitter with Union Local 195, working on construction jobs across the United States. He loved cycling, completing the MS150 bike ride from Houston to Austin three times during his seventies and time in the gym. He was a long time member and Bible study teacher at Amelia Baptist Church. Also, he served with the Gideons in placing Bibles across Jefferson County. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, dominoes with friends, and travel. He was a long time resident of Beaumont and passed away August 13, 2011 at College Street Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the Claybar Kelley Watkins Chapel with interment to follow in Haven of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris A. Martin; daughters, Sheila Husband and her husband, Charles of Beaumont, Shelley Morgan and husband, David of Buda, TX, Marilyn Tompkins and husband, Paul Sr. of Austin, TX and Brian Martin and wife, Bethanne, of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Paul Tompkins Jr., Wes Morgan, Carl Husband, Michelle Brown, Elizabeth Allyne Martin, Brian Scott Martin, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jadyn Tompkins, Taylor Tompkins, Layla Brown; and his brother, Virgil Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. Serving as pallbearers will be: Paul Tompkins, Carl Husband, Wes Morgan, Scott Martin, Paul Tompkins Sr., Charles Husband, David Morgan and Gil Owens will serve as honorary pallbearer.
