Sarah Medlock Bowen

Sarah Medlock Bowen, 95, of Orange, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, at her residence.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Danny Brack of Calvary Christian Center in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Born in New Harmony, Mississippi on January 18, 1916, Sarah was the daughter of William Asbury Medlock and Tranny Ione Powell Medlock. She was a member of North Orange Baptist Church for over fifty years. Her favorite times were Sunday afternoon family dinners, baking cakes from scratch, attending numerous basketball, football and baseball games, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren perform, as well as dance recitals. She also made everyones favorite travel companion. Truly an extra special lady that was very kind and loved by all that was blessed to know her.

Preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Sam Bowen, Sarah is survived by her son, Dr. Frank W. Bowen of Carthage, Mississippi; daughters, Faye Cockrell Parish and Betty Bowen Morgan and her husband, Virgil all of Orange.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Frank W. Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Carthage, Mississippi, Fletcher Cockrell, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of The Woodlands, Donna Morgan Strickland and her husband, Buddy of Orange, Art Morgan and his wife, Lori of Mauriceville; great-grandchildren, Michelle Cockrell, Crystal Cockrell all of The Woodlands, Stormy and Rainy Strickland of Orange, Brody and Karlie Morgan of Mauriceville; and great great-granddaughter, Jaide Cockrell of The Woodlands.

Ms. Sarah also claimed nieces, Peggy Lindley, Linda Horton; and nephew, Lacy Potter, all of Tupelo, Mississippi as her own.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Brad Ford, Fletcher Cockrell, Sr., Sonny Bowen, Ronnie Logan, Art Morgan and Brody Morgan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Eikenhorst, Doyce Sherman, Billy Paul Withrow and Prentice Ashworth.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Marian Chen-hah and her caring staff. As well as her caregivers, Linda Hyatt, Yvette Cotton, and Millie Dorsy for their great care and Kim Harvey of Angels Above Us.
