SHERLYNE “SHIRLEY” MCCOLLOUGH

June 27, 1954 - September 21, 2025

Shirley McCollough, 71, of Vidor, went to her Heavenly home Sunday, September 21, 2025. She was born on June 27, 1954, in Port Arthur to Margie and Sherman Guillory.

Shirley grew up in Port Acres and attended school at Stephen F. Austin where she graduated in 1972 with honors, in the top ten of her class. She was a proud member of the SFA marching band and played the clarinet. She attended nursing school and obtained her BSN at University of Texas Nursing School, Houston in 1976 where she began her career as a licensed Registered Nurse. She met Phillip in 1978 and they fell in love and married in February of 1980. She was a proud fireman’s wife. They had a daughter, Shelley, in December of 1981 who they prayed so very hard for. Shirley loved being a wife, mom and nurse. In September of 2014, she became a grandmother to Tristyn. Being a gammy was her absolute greatest pleasure in life. She worked as a nurse through many departments of several hospitals in Houston and Port Arthur. She retired in 2010 from St Mary’s at 55. She was well respected and loved by so many in all her ventures of life.

Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She lit up a room with her smile and her laugh will never be forgotten. She immensely loved God, his Word and her family, including her spoiled Josie dog. She also fiercely loved and cherished her church and her friends selflessly until her very last breath.

Shirley was gratified by the saving grace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV), the Bible says: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” She exemplified grace in everything she did.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip McCollough; daughter, Shelley McCollough; and granddaughter, Tristyn McCollough. Also, her sister, Faye McCracken and husband Pat as well as their children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Margie and Sherman Guillory as well as niece and nephew, Mae and Bubba.

Celebration of life gathering for Shirleys family and friends will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, October 4, 2025. This will be at Pecan Acres Baptist Church of Vidor. Pastor Jared Hollier will be the officiant for the ceremony beginning at 11:00am.

If you would like to send flowers, Please be sure to let the florist know they are to be delivered at the church Friday evening on October 3, 2025.

The YaYa Sisters now have our own very special angel Shirley in Heaven. You were such a joy to know. You were highly respected for your knowledge, kindness and generosity. I relied on your advice. Shirley worked for the surgeon doing my testing for 13 yrs. The last time we spoke was the day of my procedures. Her advice truly comforted me. Shirley smile is reflected in Tristan. We called her a mini Shirley. She gleamed when she spoke of her family or our Susie Q. They were lifelong friends. Our Susie sang Amazing Grace as our Father was welcoming home. You will live on in our hearts forever! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

Shirley was the sweetest lady, always had smile on her face. I also was a port Acres resident graduate of 1974. I also worked at St Mary Hospital so we crossed paths many times.she also shared the same birthday as my husband who was also born on the same day as Shirley which she and I laughed about wondering if they were crib mates. No matter where I ran into her she always stopped and visited with me. Prayers to her family for a great loss but I know she is now in heaven receiving her reward for a life well lived.

Shirley was the most thoughtful and kind friend anyone could ever have. If my heart ached, so did her’s. She loved to help with her nursing skills, cooking skills, scrapbooking skills, and such an encourager. She loved to talk about her family, which she adored. Her heart was as big as Texas. Keeping Philip, Shelley, and Trystan lifted in prayer for strength, comfort and peace. Thankful to have called Shirley my dear friend.

From 5th grade you have been my BOBFFE. I cherish our wonderful friendship that our Lord Jesus blessed us with. So many memories we have made. Your smile lit up the room and your gorgeous homemade cards made my day for so many years. But my greatest memories with you are when we got to be Gammy and Tacci together with our precious grandkids giggling together…. Raos baking class, puppet show and the Kids Museum. We did it together Shirley! ❤️ We loved our Lord and Savior together! ❤️ One day we will see each other again in Heaven! What a blessing it is to have this strong assurance. I love you Shirley, and your precious family forever and ever.
