Dr. Thomas D. Gautreaux

1950 ∼ 2016

Dr. Tom D. Gautreaux, 65, of Beaumont, passed away on January 2, 2016.

He was born on November 1, 1950 to David and Mamie (Richard) Gautreaux in Thibodaux, Louisiana, but moved to Beaumont at an early age. Dr. Gautreaux knew early on that he wanted to be a dentist. He graduated from South Park High School and went on to study at Lamar State College in Beaumont; from there he was accepted to University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. Dr. Gautreaux has been a practicing dentist for over 38 years where he treated his patients like family.

Dentistry wasn’t the only passion he developed early. At the age of 12 his love for the outdoors and hunting began. Dr. Gautreaux was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and a member of the YMBL. He was an incredible cook who was dubbed “camp cook” at his deer lease. He will be remembered fondly as a man who loved his family and patients. His family will never forget their famous Easter Gatherings.

Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Officiating will be Reverend Edison Colbert of Paradise Church. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Pace Gautreaux of Beaumont, Texas; children, Jacqueline Gautreaux Crill and her husband, Josh of Loveland, Colorado and Paul Gautreaux of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Jaden and Jackson Bowser of Loveland, Colorado; siblings, Donia Brown and her husband, George of Sour Lake, Texas and James Gautreaux and his wife, Carolyn of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews as well.

I am saddened to learn that Tom passed away. You already know that he was a kind and gentle man who cared about those around him. I have known tom for over forty years and he was always smiling, jocular, and outgoing. I will miss him as a person as well as my dentist. May God bless him and his family in this difficult time. I will always remember Doc being their when I accidentally locked my son in the car at a convenience store near my home. The car was still running when Doc pulled up. He stayed with me and encouraged me until I got my son to climb into the front seat of the car and unlock the door. We joked about it many times, but his friendly caring smile will always be remembered. He will truly be missed. Our prayers will be with you all and in the days ahead. God will be your strength. Lean on Him. Love, Lillie Babino, Mike and the Babino family.

Doc was the one person on the Wiergate lease that I looked very forward to talking with first thing in the AM. We would sit and chat about everything from being him a Dentist to deer movements and cooking (what a great cook he was). Those 30-45 minute conversations would be a great start off for my day. This past Sunday AM was hard, as I sat in the deer camp alone, the place was too quiet. Doc always had a smile and was a pleasure to be around. I wish I could have known Doc longer, but at least I had the privilege to have known him for the past 3 years. What a great man.Doc, I hope to be able to have many stories to tell you when we meet again, until then you will be dearly missed!Brent J DeRouenSpring, Texas

You are so kind and loving and even though I never met Doc, I know he was a wonderful man. May God fill you with peace and contentment during this painful time, and with God's grace, the two of you will be together again, your love for each other, everlasting. I love you with all my heart. Dearest Donia, Pam, Pat, Jacqueline, Paul and Family, I am in shock and deeply saddened over the loss of Tom. I have been a patient and therefore a friend of Tom & Donia for over 35 years. Tom was a kind & gentle dentist who really cared about his patients. He was the first dentist that I visited after my Pediatric Dentist retired and convinced me that he could give me a painless injection...and he did! I was so afraid of the pain from injections that I suffered in my childhood and teen years due to pain from injections given by others. I feel as though I know each member of the family because he was always so happy to speak and show photos of his kids, Mom, nieces, nephews and later grand kids. My husband, Steve is a patient as well. We will keep all of you in our prayers and trust God's grace will carry you through this difficult time. With our prayers and love, Leah & Steve Gomez
