Thomas Vernon Smelker - Labrie-Claybar

Thomas Vernon Smelker, Sr., 94, of San Antonio was born January 11, 1919 in Beaumont, Texas and passed away February 18, 2013 at Wellspring Gardens in San Antonio.

He was a realtor and owner of T.V. Smelker Realty in Beaumont. In later years, he was a loan officer at First Federal Savings and Loan.

Mr. Smelker was a graduate of the University of Texas, a US Navy veteran of WWII, a member of First Church of Christ Scientist and a former longtime member of the Beaumont Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Smelker of Austin; son, Tom Smelker, Jr. of Austin; daughter, Janet Smelker Yglesias of Houston; five grandchildren, Amber, Brent and Cory Sefert, and Kimberly and Angela Smelker; and one great-grandchild, Aiden Sefert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Vernon and Grace Young Smelker.

Private family services will be held Friday at Magnolia Cemetery.
