Velma Simmons, 82, was born October 1928 to James and Susan Polk in Walnut Springs, Texas and passed away April 10, 2011 in Beaumont. Velma retired as a medication aide from Sabine Oaks Nursing Home after 14 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am ? 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 13 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Reverend Richard Coward will officiate at the graveside service at 3:00 pm Wednesday at Newton County Cemetery in Newton. Ms. Simmons is survived by daughters, Charlene Crawford, Laverne Thomas and husband Denny, Susan Cruz Davis and husband George, and Margie Stafford; sons, Welton and Roy Simmons; sister, Mineola McDonald and brother, Bobby Polk and wife, Lonnie, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, A.C.Busby and George Busby.
