Vina Irene Mallory

Vina Irene Mallory, 88, of Orange, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Hermann Memorial Baptist Hospital.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Tim Norris of Trinity Lutheran.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Vina was born on December 14, 1919, in Austin. She was the daughter of Roy Hamilton and Emma Annie Bauer Piper. She was a secretary of Levingston Ship Building and a proprietor of Mallory's Grocery, where she took a special interest in children. She also worked in accounting for Ramsey-Kantz. She was a founding member of Trinity Lutheran Church on 16 th Street and very active in all church organizations. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Women and taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She loved children and was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who attended all of her children and grandchildren's activities. She was known as the "Icee Lady" at Mallory's Grocery. She also loved to play bridge.

She was a member of the Orange Country Club, Women's Club of Orange, and served on several Auxiliary Boards for Orange County youth baseball and football. She volunteered at Jones Nursing Home and was PTA Officer at Jones Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Emma Piper; husband, James Mallory, and three sisters, Doris Crawford, Dorothy Blair, and Mildred Wolf.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Dorraine Babcock and John; son and daughter-in-law, John Mallory and Sherry all of Orange, and Jim Mallory of League City; grandchildren, Jason Babcock and wife Melissa, Shane Brister and wife Scottie, Bryan Mallory and wife Leslie, Maggie Collum and husband Casey, Lauren Mallory, Rebecca Mallory, Ethan Brister and Hannah Brister; great-grandchildren, Justin Babcock, Brady Babcock, Bennett Mallory, and Macy Collum; brother Leroy Piper of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Serving as pallbearers are Bryan Mallory, Jason Babcock, Shane Brister, Casey Collum, Mike Ochs, and Jay Broussard.

Honorary pallbearers are Frank Gilbert, Robert Ed Edwards, Eddie Colebrook, Buddy Stelter, James Stringer, Ralph Eikenhorst, Bob Appel, Bruno Schueler, and Larry Downhour.
