W.R. Jack Newsom, Sr.

W.R. "Jack" Newsom, Sr., 86, of Bridge City, Texas passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Dubuis - St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City with Reverend Steve Leger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Sunday at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. On Monday, visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Born in De Queen, Arkansas on January 1, 1924, Jack was the son of Lewis W. Newsom and Myrtle Webb Newsom. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and former Faithful Navigator of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree in Bridge City. Jack was also former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and OCAW 423 for 35 years. Jack served 4 years in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He retired from Gulf Oil after 41 years, where he worked as an operator.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Elizabeth "Bess" Newsom of Bridge City; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tony Bramblett of Bridge City; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Carol Newsom, Jr. of Bridge City; and daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Brian Tweekrem of Lumberton.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tony Bramblett Jr., Jennifer Bramblett, Eric Bramblett, Rebeka Bramblett, Richard Newsom III, Dustin Newsom, Terese Newsom, Dalee Newsom, Brittney Delossantos and Kourtney Weston; 8 great-grandchildren; and ssister, Olean Sonnier of Bridge City and Clara Matura of Wadsworth.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Tony Bramblett Jr., Eric Bramblett, Richard Newsom III, Dustin Newsom, Robert Newsom and Wayne Newsom. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gavin Bramblett, Kevin Weston, Ricky Wagnon and Lane Dupree.
