Zannie Lyles

Zannie Lyles, 99, of Lufkin, died Monday, September 27, 2010, in a Huntington nursing facility.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in West Orange, with the Reverend Wilton Anthony, officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange, under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Born in Shelby County on July 22, 1911, she was the daughter of Laura Permenter Fleming and William Fleming. Mrs. Lyles was a long time resident of West Orange before moving to Lufkin six years ago. She was a homemaker, member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church and for many years, was a Gray Lady volunteer at the former Orange Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lupton Lyles; sisters, Amie Hughes, Mamie Sapp, Sudie Humphrey and brother, Clayborn Fleming.

Mrs. Lyles is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Johnnie Beth and Kerry Gene Hogg of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kerry R. Hogg and his wife, Stacey of Groveton, Rhonda Bates and her husband, Jeff of Lufkin and Kyle E. Hogg of Orange.

Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Jesse Ferguson and her husband, J.D. of Huntsville, Bethany Hogg of Groveton, Alec Mann, Jax Bates and Jon Bates, all of Lufkin.

Serving as pallbearers will be R.W. Carter, Bill Edd Dixon, Roy C. McDonald, Micah Satir, Don McFarlane, Mike Calderon, Don Finley, Mike James and John Heard.

I was very blessed to have known Mrs. Lyles and Bro. Lyles in the time I served as Youth Minister and Pastor of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church 1968-1973 They were two of the most faithful Christian people I've ever known.
